Carpets in Barnsley for stairs, bedrooms and lounges
The right carpet depends on the room. We'll bring a wide range of piles and fibres to your home so you can compare them side by side where they'll actually be laid.
The hardest-working carpet in the house
Every trip up to bed and back puts weight on the same few inches of each stair, so stair carpet wears faster than anything else. Many older Barnsley terraces have steep, straight flights where that wear shows quickly.
For stairs we usually suggest a short, dense loop or a tightly twisted pile in a wool blend or polypropylene, on a firm underlay. A mid-tone or flecked colour hides scuffs on the nosings far better than a pale plain shade.

What each pile is good at
A quick guide to the carpets we'll bring on the visit.

Twist pile
Cut yarn twisted tight so it springs back. Our most requested carpet for lounges, landings and stairs.

Saxony
Longer, softer pile with a rich, velvety look. Lovely in bedrooms where there's less traffic.

Loop pile
Uncut loops that make a firm, hard-wearing surface — a good choice for hallways and busy stairs.

Wool blends
Naturally springy and warm, and they keep their appearance for a long time.

Polypropylene
Bleach cleanable and stain resistant, so spills from children and pets are much less of a worry.
Warmth underfoot, room by room
Bedrooms are where most people want a bit of luxury. A saxony or deep twist on a thick underlay makes a real difference on a cold morning, especially in older stone or solid-walled houses.
Because you'll see the samples in the room itself, you can judge how a colour looks against your bedding and in the light from your own window before you decide.

Carpet questions answered
Is twist or loop better for stairs?
Both work well. A tight twist feels a little softer and hides footprints, while a dense loop gives a flatter, very hard-wearing finish. We'll bring both so you can feel the difference on your own stairs.
Which carpets can be cleaned with bleach?
Polypropylene carpets can be cleaned with a diluted bleach solution, which is why they're popular with families and pet owners. All of our full house deal carpets are bleach cleanable.
Does new carpet need time to settle before I hoover it?
No, that's a myth. New carpet often sheds a few loose fibres at first, and vacuuming them up straight away is the best thing to do.
